We can all feel it
We are are just holding our breath
“Will I see you again?”
As we gather around
Sharing our memories
Of an entire lifetime
In just this season
Are you just as new of a person as I am?
You know the feeling.
Lounging in the grass
Warm from the early summer sun
And everything green
Just soaking it in with you
You arrived here
Anxious you wouldn’t
out of your time
Before you had to rush off.
Thoughts filling your mind
Do they quickly hush their choruses, worried they will scare you off; wanting you to stay a little while and get to know each other?
Do they worry you’ll share their secrets with the wrong creatures, spreading rumors and misconstrued misconceptions?
Do they thrash about overhead, throwing leaves and things at you, driving you out?
Are they just in awe of you as you are of them?
Do you feel them spreading their branches wide and welcoming you in?
Clearing an area for you to rest.
Giving you a chance to speak and be heard.
Giving you the shelter, the sunlight, the shade that you are so desperately seeking.
What do they think of me?
They are anxious to feel your fingers dance with theirs,
counting the seconds until our palms touch again.
Until your thumb grazes the back of my hand;
until I feel the beat of your fingers drumming on my arm;
until I can see the pulse in your veins,
running up your arm and to your heart,
my hands will be anxiously perspiring in anticipation of your touch.
I don’t know how to say this
In a way that makes any sense to most people.
But it’s time for me to shuffle my feet around
And let them lead me out the front door.
I’m stagnant. Like water left in a cup on your nightstand for too long.
It isn’t your fault
It is mine
I allowed myself to grow dim and dull and dark.
Are always there to hold me.
They keep me feeling safe,
But if somebody was to ask me
What I seek
When I’m feeling lost
— When I’m feeling unsure and restless,
I would bring them to this moment;
When I rest my brow
And I place my palm
on your spin.
As I run my hands and press my brow deeper into my haven that is your presence, I feel everything I carry with me slowly growing lighter
As you take me
On your back
And fly me away.
You help me cast off the weights of the worlds my mind lives in.
Feeling your heartbeat,
Riding the rhythm of your breath
is where I come when I am lost,
You are always there to bring me back.
From your steam.
All of these buds in my yard
with this afternoon’s aftereffects
of the disruption of tranquility
it sent down
with this summer storm.
(Drops of sunshine on every surface)
The most beautiful of them all.
How could you not be?
Decorated like that
With those glistening gems.
Very lucky indeed
To have been able
To share an afternoon with you.
Look at you,
Blushing and waving at the sun-rays.
I once saw a blossom that looked a lot like you,
She was so sweet.
I wish she could have stayed longer.
But that is life, isn’t it?
You don’t get to have beautiful souls in your life for as long as you want,
Only as long as you need.
That’s what makes it all so beautiful
Something you love so dearly
Something you have an immeasurable fondness for
It won’t be there forever.
And blossoms blow into petals that get taken to all the corners of the world
Carried by the wind,
Like a kiss, blown out the window of a passing car,
Gone in an instant.
As long as you can.
